Rosie is gone.

I've never known anything like it.  Rosie had Ace, Worrals, Rebel, Gypsy, Cecil and even Pixy taking part in a vigil of cuddling next to her on the sofa on my lap during the day.  She died in Simon's arms as he took a turn cuddling her about 9pm.  She will leave a large hole, but as she was very depressed when Saffron died, I wonder if that's what set it all off.

Rosie is taking dying seriously now. She really enjoyed that last meal of chicken, but squiggled into Simon's arms during the night and is fading fast. She's drunk some cat milk and some broth from the chicken bones but that's the limit of her efforts. She's on my feet, with a hot water bottle, she has wriggled out from under the rug.  She has a little drop of thin April sunshine.

Ace has been cuddling Rosie and looking after her, all the Rubbish Tip 3 have to some extent, but Ace especially.  She was their little mummy when they arrived, and they know how to pay love debts back. They are going from strength to strength, and Kelly and Piper are already becoming big cats.  Piper also answers to'Chuchundra' [for those of you who do not know your Kipling, in the extra tales at the back of Jungle Book was the story of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the mongoose, and Chuchundra is the musk rat who goes round the edge of the room because he doesn't dare cross the middle.  It suits.] Ace is still a little little cat and probably always will be. Kelly has taken on Linnie's mantle as the Prince of Daftness, and Ace is the Kronprinz of Kisses even if not the King.  Cecil is also trying to be a prince of daftness.  Right now he's come to lie with Rosie, I'm not sure if it's the sun puddle that attracts him, or altruism, but he is good when cats are under the weather.

Scampi and Gypsy, being my biggest, and the biggest cowards in the UK, had lovely Lauren come out to innoculate them at home.  And Gypsy still went beresk.  He would have gone berserk but that requires more brain power than he can muster, so beresk it had to be.  However, he was on my arm making puddings with both ends that evening, instead of the both of them decamping to live under Simon's bed for three days, so worth having Lauren out on call.

Leo is still enjoying his lion cut, and loves to cuddle daddy.

We had a few days warm sunshine, unlike today's thin and icy offering, and so the window was opened. Rosie was able to go out, and enjoyed it, basking.

Here are some gratuitous April pictures, which include a lot of Rosie just because.  I don't expect her to live the day out, she's sleeping herself away.

Can that be Princess Pixy Neferkity Merybast with her tongue stuck out?

Better News

Well, Rosie is still with us and from the razor sharp spine and place where your fingers meet at the back end of her spine she has a little, little pad of flesh.  I am feeding her with a malty high calorie paste, chicken, and Felix double delicious as she's gone off kitten food.  She had a vitamin B injection and has chalky stuff night and morning to try to stabilise her bowels.  And she's drinking cat milk and broth which I make for her to keep herself hydrated.  And she can purr....

I'll try to download and post some pics soon, I've been more concerned with shoving food into Rosie than taking photos, and making sure she gets it not the ravening horde, and Pixy, who is a ravening horde on her own.  Kelly mustn't have anything except kitty food because of his runny bum; and we are winning.  He is now leaving me sticky turds on the covers [what do I call them, not antimacassars, so much as antimakellies] and needs much less frequent bum wiping.  But I have  no intention of upsetting the delicate balance of his insides when I know fine well that when he nicks anything but grain-free kitten food he proceeds to produce goo.

we have gone mostly grain free except for bribery and corruption of Rosie and of anyone except Kelly to keep them away from Rosie.
And on the sofa right now I have Ace, Worrals, Gypsy, Pixy and Rebel.  Simon has Leo, and on the computer desk/cat storage are Cecil, Piper and Rosie.

This is the worst 18 months I've lived through. Rosie is FIV+

How long has she had it?  good question. Possibly since she came from Romania 5 years ago.  It wasn't a standard test then and I didn't know enough to ask for it.
Can she survive it? I don't know, she has been losing weight hand over fist.  With help from the vet, she can have some quality of life for as long as she has, and I am trying her on fortiflora which has helped a friend's cat with FIV.
The scary thing is that it is possible that she has passed it to the others.  However, FIV is harder to catch than FelV, and Rosie has never been a fighter so we can hope they all escape it.  Also, a healthy cat with FIV does not necessarily  develop all the symptoms, even as someone with HIV isn't necessarily about to drop dead, it's a question of maintaining their shots, keeping them on probiotics and good food.  We have recently gone grain free which I am hoping will be generally a good thing.
